指腹为婚(parental betrothal) refers to an arranged marriage by two couples during their wives' pregnancies. If one of the couples gets a baby boy while the other gets a baby girl, the children will have to get married in the future. However, if both get baby boys or baby girls, they will become brothers and sisters.

Here comes the question:

How would you react if your parent had imposed this tradition on you?

Option A: No choice but to accept it.
Option B: Yell "celaka" at parent, then run away from home.
Option C: Refuse to marry the boy/girl, threaten parent that you may commit suicide.
Option D: Any other idea?

My answer is B. How about yours?

I thought this practice has long disappeared, at least not in Malaysia because we've already been civilised and urbanised, at least in 21st century we are. But when we talked about this topic during lunch time, jo said her friend does.

My reaction was .....

W.H.A.T. T.H.E. *.*.*.*. ???!!!!

Jo said she ALMOST became one of this parental betrothal victims, luckily her mom insisted not to do this. Thanks god!
I wonder nowadays, why do people still do this to restrict their daughters/sons' freedom? A spouse is a life-long partner you have to face for the rest of your life (possibly). How could the parent be so selfish that they deprive of their children's happiness??
What if your future husband is girlish?
What if your future wife is man-ish and has...six packs?
